MNMIHEEM.SYS
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
INTRODUCTION:
MNMIHEEM.SYS is a program executed from CONFIG.SYS that allows an IBM
EGA adapter to function properly in any Compaq 486-based system.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Any Compaq system that:
1. Uses an Intel 486 processor.
2. Has an IBM EGA adapter installed.
3. Uses DOS version 3.0 or newer as its operating system.
WHO SHOULD USE:
When an IBM EGA adapter is placed in a Compaq 486-based system, three
beeps (one very long, two long) occur during initialization. The
machine then boots in 40-column mode. In an MS-DOS environment, the
adapter can be returned to 80-column mode by typing MODE CO80 from a
DOS prompt, however, all EGA functionality is NOT regained.
HOW TO USE:
Copy the file MNMIHEEM.SYS to the disk or diskette you will be booting
from, using the DOS copy command:
copy a:\mnmiheem.sys d:\path\mnmiheem.sys
where d:\path\mnmiheem.sys shows the drive and directory in which the
program is to be stored and the device from which to boot.
Using the file editor of your choice, place the following line as the
first line in the CONFIG.SYS file:
device=d:\path\mnmiheem.sys.
When the system boots, the beeps described above still occur, but
shortly thereafter the screen goes blank for a short period and then
displays in 80-column mode. No installation messages are given.
EFFECTS ON YOUR SYSTEM:
After re-initializing the EGA adapter, this program leaves no residue
in your system.
