GRAY.COM
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
INTRODUCTION:
GRAY.COM is small utility program that enables "gray summing" on mono
VGC monitors when a monochrome display adapter is also installed in
the same system.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Any COMPAQ Computer with COMPAQ VGC (with mono VGC monitor) AND a
monochrome display adapter installed in the same system. COMPAQ
MS-DOS Version 2 or greater
WHO SHOULD USE:
Any user who has installed a monochrome display adapter in addition
to the VGC (with monochrome monitor) can benefit from GRAY.COM. [The
presence of the monochrome adapter forces the VGC to take the color
address space in spite of the fact that it too has a mono monitor
attached to it.] The VGC monochrome monitor will fail to display
colors correctly. Shades of blue or red may not be visible at all.
GRAY turns on "gray summing" which allows these colors to be seen
correctly as shades of gray on the VGC monochrome monitor.
HOW TO USE:
1.Copy the program GRAY.COM from the distribution diskette to your
system diskette or fixed disk.
2. Run the program by typing GRAY.COM.
3. When the package is successfully installed, you will get the
following message:
GRAY.COM version 1.00
Copyright (C) Compaq Computer Corp. 1990
for VGC with mono monitor AND monochrome display adapter.
VGC Gray Summing Enabled, sample color bar =>
It then prints a short color bar on the last line just to show
that "gray summing" is enabled.
GRAY.COM will abort if it finds the required video adapters are
not present.
NOTE: You may use an editor, to add a line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
to execute the command at system boot.
EFFECTS ON YOUR SYSTEM:
1.All colors on the VGC mono monitor will be correctly displayed as
shades of gray.
2. Once installed, the grey summing remains in effect until you
reboot your computer.
3. GRAY.COM will NOT take up any memory as it is not resident.
