Subject: Potential Data Corruption Problem with COMPAQ EXPANDED
MEMORY MANAGER (CEMM.EXE) Version 4.20 on COMPAQ USER
PROGRAMS Version 7.06 Revision A
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Any Compaq 386 or 486 computer.
DESCRIPTION
Compaq Computer Corporation has determined that a potential data
corruption or data destructive problem exists with the COMPAQ
CEMM.EXE Version 4.20 found on COMPAQ USER PROGRAMS Version 7.06
Revision A. This problem results from incorrect maintenance of
a register associated with the BIOS Interrupt 15 MOVE BLOCK
function (AH=87h). No specific error condition can be
determined because different applications use the affected
register in different ways; however, applications using extended
memory with that particular register and function may be subject
to data loss or corruption, system lockup, or other unusual
program behavior.
This problem occurs only with the version of CEMM on COMPAQ USER
PROGRAMS Version 7.06 Revision A.
COMPAQ ACTION
Compaq has released CEMM Version 4.21 to correct this problem.
This version of the CEMM utility is accompanies this README
file, and is also included in COMPAQ USER PROGRAMS Version 7.06
Revision B.
USER ACTION

Version 7.06 Revision B which contains CEMM Version 4.21 was
shipped with the COMPAQ unit. If COMPAQ USER PROGRAMS Version
7.06 Revision A is found, replace the CEMM Version 4.20 utility
with the new CEMM Version 4.21 utility.

line, type at the DOS command line
CEMM
and press the Enter key. The installed version of CEMM displays
its version number, COMPAQ Copyright notice, and current
statistics.
If you determine that CEMM 4.20 is installed on your system,

system diskette or fixed disk. Copy to the same subdirectory
that contains the original CEMM.EXE so that the original is
overwritten.
2. Re-boot the computer so that the new CEMM.EXE is loaded.

using CEMM.EXE version 4.20.
