PATCH INSTRUCTIONS
Errors have been reported by users of high-performance machines
with the 3COM 3C501 network adapter card.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
COMPAQ DeskPro 386/20
COMPAQ DeskPro 386/20e
COMPAQ DeskPro 386/25
WHO SHOULD USE:
This patch will be required by high-performance workstations
using a 3C501 network adapter card. Apparently the Portable
386/20 is an exception to the rule.
HOW TO USE:
1) Make a backup copy of the file ETH.SYS.
2) There are two batch files included in this patch; which you use
depends on the version of 3COM software to be patched.
Version 1.2 FIX_V12
Version 1.3.1 FIX_V131
In order to patch the ETH.SYS file, use one of the batch files
listed above that has the patch locations already loaded on the
command line. If ETH.SYS is not in the default directory, you
will need to specify the drive and/or path as follows:
FIX_V1xx [Drive:][Path\]
3) When the patch is successfully installed, you will receive the
following messages:
Patch Utility for 3COM 3+Plus Version 1.x.x
Version 1.04 (C) Copyright Compaq Computer Corporation 1988
Patching [Drive:][Path\]ETH.SYS
Patch applied at offset XXXX (hex.)
1 patch(es) applied
(Where 1.x.x is the 3COM software revision number
and XXXX is the location at which the patch was applied)
